Out and About

Swings, Rings and Ropes

October 20, 2015

A walk on the beach is so cliche. This beach date is for swingers only.

An oceanside jungle gym filled with hot-bodied fitness fiends with the skills of a Cirque de Soleil act, this area of the beach might have you saying “Damn, I need to work out!” And if it doesn’t, well, hop on up!

If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it.

Whether you’re a fitness lover looking for something beachy or a beach lover looking for some entertainment, the Rings, Swings and Ropes by the Santa Monica Pier are a pretty amazing place to spend a warm LA afternoon any season.

Depending on your fitness level, its possible you might be able to show off some skills right away, but even if you’re nervous, have no fear! Half the fun of a date like this is learning something new together.

What’s a better way to break the ice than falling on your face with grace? Even better if you can joke about it afterwards. After all, laughter is the best medicine.

When it comes to who chooses the date, he's FLEXible.

I talked to some of the guys down at the rings and found out it’s not as easy as it looks. Remember the monkey bars in elementary school? Think that. Times 100. While swinging and spinning through the air. One incredibly talented and strapping young lad said it took him about 6 months to master the rings. So don’t be too hard on yourself.

If you’re not ready to put a ring on it, there’s still plenty of gymnastics-like activities to explore. From balance beams to tightropes to old school swing sets, every level of athlete can find something to enjoy.

To infinity and BEYOND!

In the midst of all the acrobatic equipment is a small green field. If you’re planning a normal workout date, come EARLY. This area fills up quickly in the afternoon – with cheerleaders.

If you’ve been wanting to Bring It On, here’s your chance to learn a bit about it. Be prepared to be amazed. These athletes throw more impressive stunts than anything you saw at at football games. As a former UCLA Cheerleader, believe me, I know.

Soak in the view.

One of the best things I found about this location is that the people there are so friendly and helpful. Professional aerialists, cheerleaders, gymnasts and trainers alike are all lending advice in a welcoming and nonjudgmental environment.

On my trip to the swings, rings, and ropes, I mostly just played spectator. There’s so much to take it, it’s like a free trip to the Cirque all around you!

Feeling daring, I did take a shot at walking the tightrope. Let me tell you, it ain’t easy! But when a handsome lad says he’ll hold your hand while you give it a try… well, darling, sometimes you just have to nod and say yes.

Single and ready to RINGle? Make you tag us if you discover your next #MCM or #WCW at this outdoor date.

Seriously though. We’re not monkeying around. #20dollardate
