Introducing Wine Wednesday!

October 21, 2015

Happy #WineWednesday! OMG I can’t get this bottle open fast enough.

Not that I need it to be Wednesday in order to pour myself a delicious glass or two or six of the most delicious drank known to man. But if there’s a hashtag created to celebrate wine, who am I to say no to an excuse to use it week after week?

Another glass? WINE not.

Another glass? Why not.

So that’s what I’m gonna do. And out of the kindness of my heart and my liver, I’m going to share my experiences with you.

Why? You might think it’s because I was going to be drinking wine anyway. And you’d be right.

But it’s also because of situations like this:

Imagine you are a lovely, sweet lady such as myself who’s been invited over by a young chap to watch Netflix and chill. But what’s this? You two aren’t the only things chillin’! That gent’s got a bottle of red in the fridge ready to rock your world.

He pulls the wine out of the fridge, pops the cork and pours you each a glass. He sets the bottle down in front of you and as the first glorious sip hits your lips you realize… THIS SHIT IS TWO BUCK CHUCK, THAT CHEAP BASTARD.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t really wanna be the guy or the girl in this situation. Netflix and chill be DAMNED, nobody’s gettin’ laid tonight!

There's nothing like taking a photo of yourself sipping wine to prove you're classy.

There’s nothing like taking a photo of yourself sipping wine to prove you’re classy.

I have absolutely nothing against an affordable bottle of libations and I love a classic glass of pinot as much as the next basic bitch. But honestly, do you want that first sip to taste like battery acid? Bad wine does not pair well with swapping spit.

Each Wednesday, Twenty Dollar Date will be honoring the drink of the gods and alcohol in general with a themed post. We’ll make sure you get the good stuff, for $20 or less.

We’ve teamed up with the Wine Expo to bring you monthly Fine Wine Features. At the start of each month, we’ll highlight a bottle at an under $20 price point recommended by one of the store’s sommelier owners, Robert and Ali.

A hidden gem in Santa Monica, the Wine Expo offers great deals on wines and even better deals for a date night out at their wine bar in back. (Check back here to see those soon!)

On other weeks I’ll be scouring the shelves of grocery stores across LA to find the best deals on the tastiest pours on the market at the market. These fabulous finds will average just $10 a bottle and often less.

Good wine doesn’t have to be expensive to be delicious. Wine Wednesdays will also feature simple tips so that you can pour your vino like a pro. Believe me, it makes a difference.

Finally to round out the month for our non-wine drinkers (seriously, what is wrong with you), we’ve got Well Drink Wednesday! Don’t blame it on the alcohol. There’s plenty you can do to your average well liquor to overcome that burning sensation. Save feeling the burn for pilates class.
